Kick off meeting of the project “CULTURAL DIPOLE” funded by the “Interreg V- A“Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” Cooperation Programme
On Thursday, the 16th of November, the kick off meeting of the project “CREATION OF A CULTURAL DIPOLE IN THE CROSS BORDER REGION” (acronym “CULTURAL DIPOLE”) took place in Serres, Greece.
The project proposal was submitted on the 22nd of April 2016 and was officially approved for implementation on the 1st of September 2017.
Representatives from the Municipality of Serres, the Municipality of Petrich, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Democritus University of Thrace and the Managing Authority of “Interreg V- A“Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” attended the meeting.
The project’s main aim is the creation of two museums in the cross-border area, the thematic museum “Constantin Xenakis” in Serres and the “Multi-faced museum of Petrich”, which aspire to act as poles of attraction with considerable benefits for the area. The new museums will act as a platform for the development of two abandoned army camps into Cultural Parks of international interest, housing cultural heritage treasures of the two areas.
As far as the renovation of the two buildings is concerned, exemplary interventions concerning their access by disabled persons and their energy performance will be utilized. In particular, the building of the thematic museum “Constantin Xenakis” will become a “Nearly Zero Energy Building” and act as an example of such an implementation for the area.
At the beginning of the meeting, a short presentation of the “Interreg V- A“Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” programme was made by Mrs. Galina Georgieva, followed by a presentation of the project “CULTURAL DIPOLE” by Prof. Aristotelis Naniopoulos.
Afterwards, a presentation of the project’s Work Packages was performed by the project’s partners, followed by a discussion concerning the tasks of each Work Package based on the project’s timeplan.
The meeting was concluded by the presentation of its basic conclusions and the definition of the following steps within the project’s framework.
