Participation in the International Conference “Regional Development and Crossborder Cooperation”

Prof. Naniopoulos participated in the international conference “REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CROSSBORDER COOPERATION” which was organised in Pirot / Serbia on Saturday the 2nd of December. The main goal of the conference was to promote scientific work based on the current state of regional development, with an emphasis on cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries, as well as promoting and supporting new industrialization. The organisers of the conference were the City of Pirot, the Faculty of Management in Zajecar, the Belgrade Metropolitan University and the Chamber of Economy Pirot.

During the conference Prof. Naniopoulos delivered a presentation entitled “CREATING A “CULTURAL DIPOLE” IN THE CITIES OF SERRES (GR) AND PETRICH (BL) IN THE FRAME OF INTERREG REGIONAL COOPERATION. In particular, he presented CULTURAL DIPOLE as:

  • good practice example of Interregional – Interborder cooperation
  • a project creating new attraction poles for tourists from Serbia, particularly of the wider area of Pirot on their route to Greece. The new museums in Petrich and Serres, in synergy with existing historical and other reasons of particular interest to Serbians of the area (e.g. local food), may result in attracting new visitors in the aforementioned cities.
